BIBLE VIDEOS!

Hey everyone! I hope you enjoy this bible video. The church puts them out ever so often - so ENJOY@ and they are also found on lds.org along with other ones!

Oh and Dad, on your mission you used slides; on my mission we use the internet and show all the videos of the Mormon messages and bible videos. Haha...just thought you should know. I know you've been asking about it in the past.

Enjoy! You will feel the Spirit! Trust me and Jesus Christ! Choose Him...He's the man!

SPRING IS COMING!                     3 April 2012

Hey everyone! Things are going well here. Things are getting more exciting as we are planning to start integrating and magnifying people's callings. We're about to get on FIRE! Along with all that, things are going to be getting more stressful but it's a good thing. It's an opportunity for me to work and rely on the Lord more.

So I'm sending a new voice recording!!!!

Also, our apartment got way cleaner and much more tidy, which is nice. I'm going to be sending some things home because I need to save on space. Feel free to go through it and look at all of it. I'm hoping to get everything cleaned here pretty soon.

I'm trying lately to get my testimony much sharper of The Bible and with what The Book of Mormon says in terms of prophesies. I've also enjoyed studying in the Book of Mormon and comparing Lehi's dream with Nephi's - since they were both shown the same things! It's been pretty awesome to study!

So, thank you for the voice recordings Dad...the frogs were great! I miss them!

I'm glad to hear that things are improving!

I love you all!

Hey Family! Things here are going well. We're finding new investigators and gaining more trust in our ward. Apparently some time in the past some missionaries lost the trust of the ward; so it's been fun to see how we've been able to help grow the ward back up - since I've been in the area.....And with my new companion - it's nice to have a fresh set of eyes!

We're teaching a few new people in the city. They are really nice, love the gospel and are excited to learn more.

They're both reading The Book of Mormon and are excited for our future appointments! :-) Our Bishop also gave us a referral the other night of someone who wants to learn more about the gospel. So we're gaining the trust of the ward and we're working hard to be accountable with everything that we're given and the ward is responding! It's all good!

I've been studying more in the Ensign about hope, (Mom-I've written you a letter - I just need to send it out to you!) and it's been really great to see how much Jesus Christ can do and how many bases he's covered through the Plan of Redemption.

Alma has been good reading! I've been reading in Alma 12:9-10 which was great about how much the Lord will reveal the mysteries of God to people and how that all works! I've also been studying my blessing (Patriarchal) and using the dictionary with it! It was pretty much AWESOME!

Mom - I hope your getting better. At least it's not like Virginia, where all the pollen is coming out to say 'hello' and gets all over our bikes (and us!) Haha!

Dad - I LOVE getting the recordings from you. I can't listen to the one of the frogs because I don't have my headphones at the moment but I will; I  just forgot mine today and I will start sending you more voice recordings soon.

Amy - I hope to hear from you soon. How your doing and how things are going in life for you. The letters you send always keep me and my companion on the edge. :-).....but it's all good.....but really...I'd love to hear from you.

Laura-Cory & Owen - HEY! I really enjoyed the pics you sent me in the mail. You three look great! It's really nice to see Owen decked out in Osiris gear just like his dad! Haha! I hope all is going well. I love you three!

Amanda-David & Aidon - What's Up? YO! I love how much Aidon is growing up these days; it's been awesome to hear his voice from Dad's cell phone recordings. I hope you three are doing well; that you three are happy! I know I am!

Well, I'm heading off for now but I hope things get going well back home for everyone! Things here are great!....and hopefully getting better!

I love you all! :-)

Great District! Norfolk, Virginia - February 2012

Another tour of the Ship Yards!!

TUESDAY, MARCH 20, 2012

Hey Everyone! I sure  hope that couch is worth it! It better be Bro. Fine! haha! (Don did an audio recording for Nick!)

It was awesome to hear the Home Teacher's voices and how much (Bro. Bryson) Gilmore has grown - he sounds totally different!

That's awesome that Sis. Fine is coming  home right after me. That would be great to speak in the same sacrament meeting!

So this past week I had the rug swiped out from under me. I had BED BUGS! :-( I had bites all over my arms and neck. We figured out where they were living in my room and then took a steamer to my bed, backpacks, suits and bed frame. We put diatamatious (sp?) earth down around my bed on the baseboards and now I don't have them anymore. We got rid of the problem very quickly...other than that the Doctor has me on a z-pack of sorts for the bites....just to be sure.

We're just starting to get very busy here in Norfolk and getting everything back on track.

Nick's Greenie!

Transfers and a new Companion!

Lately, we have been reading in Joseph Smith's History where he is writing his experiences down and the validity of his history. It is easy to know that what he said is true but 'the praying and the doing part' is going to have to be the turning point for people. I believe once they get their answer...nothing will matter. The vision that God is trying to tell us is, he loves us and wants us to return back to him.

I also studied 'Agency' today and it's very fascinating to me that there has to and must be an opposition in all things......otherwise, there wouldn't be a purpose in doing good if there were no evil. How religion plays a big role in that. The scriptures are the source from where we can find and understand our purpose as to why we should be doing what we're doing. To me it's a deep thought..Haha!...but it's good....almost like dessert to my brain (something to munch on for a while!) :-)

I've also been reading up on how the Apostle Paul was trying to understand how to improve himself through God - and how much help that was to him. The psychology of that is awesome! How we are OCD with some things. Reading how Paul answers the question of 'How do I stop doing the bad things and instead to start doing the righteous things! It's awesome!

Anywaaaaaaaayyyyyyy, yeah things are going great!

I hope the girls are doing great! I hope to  hear from them soon. How are things going in the scriptures? Anything interesting that any of y'all have applied? The scriptures are super interesting and something I can't wait to study every day! HAHA! it's great! Confusing in some areas - but well worth the study.

So folks!...if one of you is getting a bike, get something that has Shimano equipment. The good brands are TREK, LIAHONA, SPECIALIZED, DIAMOND BACK, KONA, FUJI, RALEIGH. Those are some of the brands that are good. If you want a bike that's going to cost less in the long run that's going to be what you're looking for. The other bikes i.e. @ Walmart are ok but you'll want to get into the custom parts for those bikes later because they don't come with great parts. The above brands are great because missionaries use them all the time in the field and they can really take a beating.

I found a great scripture in the Book of Mormon:

"For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile."    **2 Nephi 26:33  This scripture stood out to me because it really addresses the whole "rascist" aspect of things....Great that God is not a respecter of any one type of person.

Another one:

"And thus, in their properous circumstances, they did not send away any who were naked, or that were hungry, or that were athirst, or that were sick, or that had not been nourished; and they did not set their hearts upon riches; therefore they were liberal to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, whether out of the church or in the church, having no respect to persons as to those who stood in need."    ** Alma 1:30    This scripture is one that I really like how we should look at things. It's a guide to help us understand the love of God. The relationship we should all have with each other and the outlook of riches. It's the moments we have with each other that make up eternity and happiness - not money.

I can't wait to get home and do service and go to shelters and help those in need - just for the feeling of charity it gives me....and the change that takes place in me. I hope everyone learns that lesson. It's what changes the world. It helps us to see our true potential and how much God loves His children.  "In order to get answers to our prayers, we must be an answer to someone elses'."  **Pres. Uchtdorf

Well, I LOVE all of you. I hope things are going well and that life is getting better!

I love....family..forget not.:-)

Tuesday, March 13, 2012                         THANKS!

Mom & Dad,

Thank you both for your testimonies. It brought me to tears and I hope that you both have great opportunities to keep sharing the gospel to others. It really helps me hearing the witness that people have that bring them to tears and knowing that the Lord is very close to hearing and listening to everyone and knowing that He is aware of us all.

Thank you both for being my parents and for all that you both do. Your constant e-mails really help me have something to look forward to every week - you two are the only ones that write me! Thank you - I really appreciate it - it helps keep me moving forward. Thanks!

I love you both! ...very much and pray and think of y'all always!

Catch Up Day!

Sorry I haven't updated in a while....I'll be sharing Elder Richard's last 2 emails. ENJOY!

February 28, 2012

Hello Everyone!

Things here are going better than last week; we're getting things worked out.

Today we were teaching a member in the scriptures about Prayer from Ether 3:2-5 on how the Brother of Jared took responsibility of how things were going; how he was accountable to God on what he had done. Those are the words of his prayer and from verses 6-13 are the events that happened because he was righteous. It is a great thing to see such a wonderful exaple of righteousness from chapters 1-3. Kind of cool and interesting to study up on. I LOVE the scriptures a TON! We also taught about the Parable of the Sower in Matt.13 today. My companion brought up a great point to relate it to a testimony; so something to look at soon in my future studies.

Sooooo things have been tough - one of the Elders threw up and I stayed up and took care of him the other night; and got, for the first time, to sleep in. I was up till about 4 a.m. It was tough on one of my companions who has a phobia about getting sick - so that's what we have had to work with this week! :-(

Also, we're working with him and our companionship to start a private pilot program to help with anxiety, stress and fear. President Perry has given us the go-ahead to use the 12-week training program and the 12-step of addiction program to work on these things that missionaries go through.

We're going to test it out and see where it goes. Taking notes and reporting to the Mission President and the counselors in the mission; and hopefully, it will be a help for future missionaries.

So that's the exciting things this week, sorry not much to report; but it's all good. That and the USS Enterprise tour again! :-)

Enjoy this video!

Tuesday, March 6, 2012     TRANSFERS

Hey everyone! Here are some updates; one of my companions had to be sent home (medically discharged) so he's fine. He has served a great mission. I had the opportunity to speak with his father over the phone and his family is amazing! He also called us the other day, with our Mission President's permission (I told him he should if he had the chance) and it really surprised us! He's doing great back home in SLC - a.k.a. Zion - haha!

Our teaching pool is almost empty; we're having to start all over - but it's all good. Things will get much better!

So on Saturday night we got a phone call from the Mission home and we thought it was our companion - who may have missed his flight; but it was our Mission President calling for me and he asked me to do him a favor. I said sure and he said....'Would you be willing to train a new missionary?' At that point, my heart skipped about 5 beats, but I said sure. Which brings me back to a memory I had back in the Olympia 5th branch - that I should always accept every calling. Back then I never felt qualified but I learned a lot from each of those callings and have grown the way God has wanted me to. It's been amazing to see how far I've come. So this coming Thursday, (March 8th) I'll be picking up my new companion at transfers and will be training him in Norfolk, VA for 12 weeks. Hopefully he'll learn something from me! HAHA! The funny thing was that President Perry said my name was up on the board for 2 weeks for the decision to be made! ?????

Well, we still hear gunshots in this area a lot. The most recent ones occurred just about 1-2 miles outside our apartment. I pray that my new companion fresh from the MTC doesn't get scared! I hope I can teach him well. If you'll (you all) would pray that we don't get injured or shot.....It hasn't been that big of a worry for me because it usually happens when we're in at night. We're doing good and there are areas I won't go to at certain times of the day. (PLEASE EVERYONE PRAY FOR HIS SAFETY!!!!!)

I was STOKED to get that package (finally!) the other day! We were ALL STOKED to see all the goodies in the bag. ALSO, tell Cory that I LOVE that back-pack! It will be well used in my missionary work. THANK YOU!

Regarding the quote from "Stand for Something" by Pres. Hinckley - it was amazing! It really hit me, how important living the gospel is - that it is really who we are! It reminds me of "Preach My Gospel" (or PMG) on page 117 of Chapter 6 on that page. Read it sometime...it's great!

https://www.lds.org/pages/mormon-messages?lang=eng#mens-hearts-shall-fail-them
I was watching this video when I really felt that God truly loves me when I let Him help me. I need to allow Him to do those things for me, even though I know He can't force me to do certain things. I have to BE the one willing to allow Him to help me. At that moment I felt the Spirit confirm to me that that is true. It's hard to describe what I feel; that's why everyone needs to experience it for themselves so THEY will understand how the Spirit feels also.

https://www.lds.org/pages/mormon-messages?lang=eng#a-book-of-mormon-story
I hope you all enjoy this illustration about The Book of Mormon. It brings a great view of how these things are right; how they are true and how the Lord addresses people to their own needs and to their understanding.

I testify that the Lord loves us all. I have felt all of your love through the Spirit and the Lord brings into my mind's eye your faces and the great past (of growing up). He is aware of us and I know that He is real As I have searched through the scriptures and immersed myself in His ways (living the gospel) I have been greatly blessed because of it. It is the path I choose for the rest of my life. I CHOOSE CHRIST!

I love you all. I love reading your emails and all the things the Lord is blessing you with.

P.S. Also I'm listening to your voice recordings Dad over and over again. You should leave more and LONGER ones - they're AWESOME!

Update on the Mission:

So I was just pulling my camera out to e-mail all of my adventures BUT I grabbed the wrong cord - so until next week, enjoy all these things we call letters and words...Ha!Ha!

So, yesterday (P-day) we all went to downtown Norfolk. We took the lite rail and our bikes too....It was sweet! We got everything we needed and all 5 of us (with bikes) went on the tide (lite rail system!)

We went to the mall and walked around and looked at stuff. They didn't have a bike shop (where I'd rather spend the rest of my time on a Monday)...but it's all good. We went to Barnes and Noble and looked at Journals and Dictionaries (You know...the good stuff) Haha! We also looked at running and basketball shoes.

We stopped at the Apple store and were shocked at how many people were in that shop. Technology has really made a giant impact on society. So we really just looked at the ipad and at the apps of the calendar and maps and contacts, the stuff we as missionaries dream about being the ultimate daily planner!

The games and other apps don't seem that appealing anymore so I wasn't drawn in as much as I thought I would be. After going there we went and had buffalo wild wings for lunch and that was nice. I took tons of pics of downtown and all the scenery.

On the way back on the lite rail we talked to some people about what we do and why we are missionaries. That part of the day was nice. On the way from the lite rail to our apartment we stopped and helped a lady and her friends fixing their flat tire on their car, so it was a good night after all.

Lately, we've been trying to get people to come to church but it's been a no go, but we're still trying so it's all good. It snowed the other day and we were told to stay inside so that was boring; but it's all good, sort of....

Other than that we're working really well at our companionship and things are going nicely.

25."My son, be faithful in Christ; and may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death; but may Christ lift thee up, and may his sufferings and death, and the showing his body unto our fathers, and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever.
26. And may the grace of God, the Father, whose throne is high in the heavens, and our Lord Jesus Christ, who sitteth on the right hand of his power, until all things shall become subject unto him, be, and abide with you forever. Amen." **Moroni 9:25-26

I love you all and I hope you all have a great week.

P.S. Every library is closed on Mondays in Norfolk and the only ones open are 4-5 miles away so we got permission to e-mail on Tuesdays. (I'm guessing the other libraries may be out of his area also!)

One of a Missionaries' favorite pasttimes...eating!!!
Hey Mom and Dad,

Thanks for your emails. I'm sorry that I worry so much. I will be giving my bike a little more love. A twig came up and got caught in my derailer and ruined my chain causing a massive bend all throughout and my hanger (?) on my frame had to be replaced also.

My bike isn't fixed all the way but it works and things are getting better. I really appreciate all you two do for me and I hope things aren't stressful for y'all.

Me and my 2 Great Companions!

Things are going well and the work is nice. The other day we heard a gunshot across the street we were on, as we were teaching a lesson; but I'm fine and so are my companions.

I've been working through "Preach My Gospel" and doing all the activity boxes and lessons in order and all the study ideas at the end of every chapter and it's GREAT!

I hope things at the house are doing well and that the weather is getting better. I'm glad to hear that your health is good and hope you guys are putting your bikes to good use in the garage too!

Things are still sane in our apartment. We just reorganized all of our furniture in the apartment and it looks a ton better. I've also been fixing some of the bikes in my spare time.

Here's a video that I hope you all enjoy!
